Planning Resources:

Accommodation – I always check these three websites to see my options when booking hotels or apartments to stay in : Booking.com, Airbnb.com and Expedia.com (includes VRBO & Hotels.com)

Tours – When searching for activities and tours, I use Viator and Get Your Guide

Transportation – I stalk Google Flights for both domestic and international flights. For trains, Eurail for multi-day passes and Trainline for one-off train tickets. I often use Enterprise for rental cars, but will go with any reputable company that offers a good deal.

Bosnia & Herzegovina’s Best Hidden Gem – the Mostar Old Bridge may not be the best kept secret but most European tourists don’t venture into Bosnia, and even less stay the night there. If you want to see this incredible bridge and the crazy people who jump off it–be sure to stay the night in Mostar for the full experience!

Alex’s Insider Tips

1
Share Meals- the portions in Bosnia are HUGE! Especially if you order something like a meat platter--it can easily feed a group. Be sure to bring your appetite to Bosnia & Herzegovina!
2
Drive With Caution- cops and on the lookout for foreign plates and rental cars. We've heard they will force you to pay cash on the spot for driving offenses. We drove through Bosnia & Herzegovina without any issues, but we were very careful. We did see many cars pulled over by the police though.
3
Cash is King- many souvenir shops and smaller cafes are cash only. This is even the case for some larger restaurants. Even when places do take credit card, they always prefer cash. You can take out Convertible Marka at an ATM with your debit card!
4
Day Trip from Croatia- want to see Mostar without having to drive through Bosnia and Herzegovina? You can join a day trip from cities like Split or Dubrovnik. This will be less stressful, but you will lose the opportunity to stay the night and enjoy the town without as many tourists!

What can I expect from Bosnia and Herzegovina?

A land-locked country with an up and coming tourism industry. Prices are incredibly inexpensive and there are some gems, such as Mostar or Kravica Waterfall, that are worth a visit before they get completely overrun by tourists!
