Planning Resources:

Accommodation – I always check these three websites to see my options when booking hotels or apartments to stay in : Booking.com, Airbnb.com and Expedia.com (includes VRBO & Hotels.com)

Tours – When searching for activities and tours, I use Viator and Get Your Guide

Transportation – I stalk Google Flights for both domestic and international flights. For trains, Eurail for multi-day passes and Trainline for one-off train tickets. I often use Enterprise for rental cars, but will go with any reputable company that offers a good deal.

Hungary’s Best Hidden Gem – Lake Balaton and the cute lake towns. This large, stunning lake is very popular for sailing. It’s a perfect and inexpensive summer retreat. Plus, it’s a pretty quick train ride from Budapest!

Alex’s Insider Tips

1
Visit in August- the Balaton Wine Festival in Balatonfüred is worth attending! The wineries from all over the region come together and you can taste their wines and lots of amazing food. It's so cheap--think $1 pours of wine--and everything is delicious!
2
Veszprem is the 2023 Capital of Culture- in order to showcase everything Veszperm has to offer, the city has revamped so many things! Visiting in the next few years will allow you to experience Veszprem in all its glory!
3
Wine- omg the Hungarian wine is GOOD! Be sure to try all the different varieties and enjoy the prices 🙂
4
Card is Widely Accepted- even at the wine festival stands, I could pay with card. Unlike many other European countries, I found that Hungary was a country where you could potentially get away without any cash!

What can I expect from Hungary?

Very reasonably priced, a meat-heavy menu and an incredible capital city–Budapest!
