Planning Resources:

Accommodation – I always check these three websites to see my options when booking hotels or apartments to stay in : Booking.com, Airbnb.com and Expedia.com (includes VRBO & Hotels.com)

Tours – When searching for activities and tours, I use Viator and Get Your Guide

Transportation – I stalk Google Flights for both domestic and international flights. For trains, Eurail for multi-day passes and Trainline for one-off train tickets. I often use Enterprise for rental cars, but will go with any reputable company that offers a good deal.

Latvia’s Best Hidden Gem – the countryside of Latvia. It is so beautiful, with a lot of the country actually on the Baltic Sea. Taking a drive through the countryside really shows off the country. If you’re visiting all the Baltics, take a road trip between them to see the landscape. On the drive from Riga to Tallinn, make a pitstop at Restorāns Meke for lunch.

Alex’s Insider Tips

1
Road Trip- the best way to see Latvia is with a car, especially if you pair your trip with Lithuania & Estonia. The public transport connections aren't great YET...supposed to be better within the next few years. That's why traveling with a car is your best option!
2
Learn the History- between the Riga walking tour and the Riga Ghetto & Latvian Holocaust Museum, you can learn a lot about the country. I think this really impacts the way you see a country and enhances your trip experience!
3
Maskavas Forstate- this district of Riga is a short 10 minute walk from the Old Town, but is a much cheaper location for accommodation. The Central Market and Holocaust Museum are located in this area. We came by car, so staying and parking here was very convenient!
4
Craft Beer- if you're a fan of craft beer, then Riga is the city for you! There are so many local breweries and as with everything in Latvia, the prices are great!

What can I expect from Latvia?

A somewhat undiscovered country, with a lot to offer. From the capital, Riga, to the seaside towns, you can do it all. Highly recommend a summer trip, when the weather is nice and the crowds in other European countries are too much to handle!
