Planning Resources:

Accommodation – I always check these three websites to see my options when booking hotels or apartments to stay in : Booking.com, Airbnb.com and Expedia.com (includes VRBO & Hotels.com)

Tours – When searching for activities and tours, I use Viator and Get Your Guide

Transportation – I stalk Google Flights for both domestic and international flights. For trains, Eurail for multi-day passes and Trainline for one-off train tickets. I often use Enterprise for rental cars, but will go with any reputable company that offers a good deal.

Malta’s Best Hidden Gem – is the smaller island of Gozo. Did you know Malta is actually an archipelago? The three largest islands are inhabited: Malta, Gozo and Comino. However, must tourists only visit Malta. To get off the beaten path, take the car ferry up to Gozo!

Alex’s Insider Tips

1
Ferry to Gozo- a great way to get off the beaten path and see another part of Malta is by taking the ferry to Gozo or Comino.
2
Wine Festival- every summer there is the Marsovin Summer Wine Festival. After paying an extrance fee, you are given a beautiful souvenir wine glasses and tokens for wine tasting. There's live music and a large selection of wines to taste. When I was there in 2019, the evening even ended with a firework display!
3
Private Boat Trip- if you splurge on a private sailboat tour, it will be the highlight of your trip! You can leave out of Valletta, and cruise the coast of the island up to the Blue Lagoon, stopping to swin in the unbelievably blue waters!
4
Drive on the Left Side- while I do recommend renting a car, so you can see the sights outside of the capital, it is important to be prepared that they drive on the left side of the car & road. As a former British colony, this is one of the lasting influences. Maybe splurge on the automatic car so you aren't completely overwhelmed 🙂

What can I expect from Malta?

An island country, with a historic port town and water so blue you won’t believe your eyes!
