Planning Resources:

Accommodation – I always check these three websites to see my options when booking hotels or apartments to stay in : Booking.com, Airbnb.com and Expedia.com (includes VRBO & Hotels.com)

Tours – When searching for activities and tours, I use Viator and Get Your Guide

Transportation – I stalk Google Flights for both domestic and international flights. For trains, Eurail for multi-day passes and Trainline for one-off train tickets. I often use Enterprise for rental cars, but will go with any reputable company that offers a good deal.

Montenegro’s Best Hidden Gem – the sunset from above Kotor Old Town is the best I’ve ever seen!! The Horizont Bar is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine, as you watch the sky put on a show. The best way to get here is to hire a taxi: they will drive you up, wait for you to watch the sunset and drive you back down to town. The cost is around 40 euros in total. This is well worth it because then you don’t have to drive the VERY windy roads!

Alex’s Insider Tips

1
Rent a Car- the best way to see many of the beautiful places in Montenegro is by car. If you drive to Kotor, just beware that driving on the bay-front road is very crowded in the summer. The width of the road is extremely thin, making it hard to pass by oncoming traffic at times. You can avoid driving this road and I would recommend that.
2
Pair with Croatia- neighboring Croatia is another beautiful country on the Mediterranean, so you can easily pair the two together!
3
Euro- even though Montenegro is not in the EU, they still use the Euro!
4
EU 2025- Montenegro is slated to join the EU in 2025, if this happens it will make travel even easier to this beautiful country. I think this will cause a massive uptick in tourism, so go visit now!

What can I expect from Montenegro?

Natural beauty, amazing food, kind people and relatively undiscovered. Such a gem!
