Planning Resources:

Accommodation – I always check these three websites to see my options when booking hotels or apartments to stay in : Booking.com, Airbnb.com and Expedia.com (includes VRBO & Hotels.com)

Tours – When searching for activities and tours, I use Viator and Get Your Guide

Transportation – I stalk Google Flights for both domestic and international flights. For trains, Eurail for multi-day passes and Trainline for one-off train tickets. I often use Enterprise for rental cars, but will go with any reputable company that offers a good deal.

Netherlands’s Best Hidden Gem – the city of Utrecht. Most people visit Amsterdam, which is what make Utrecht such a gem. A city with tree-lined canals and plenty of beautiful parks, cafes and restaurants.

Alex’s Insider Tips

1
Tulip Festival- possibly the most famous time of the year in the Netherlands takes place every spring. Check out the tulips all around Amsterdam and visit Keukenhof Gardens for the full experience!
2
Book in Advance- hotels, airbnbs, museum tickets, etc. Amsterdam is very popular so things book up very quickly. Be sure to book in advance!
3
Cafe Culture- grabbing a coffee in the Netherlands is a staple. The experience is about more than the cup of coffee itself, but relaxing and socializing with family and friends. So slow down and enjoy!
4
Avoid High Season- as such a popular tourist town, it will always be crowded but high, summer season will be the worst. Hotels will be at their most expensive and the experience just won't be as good as say the spring or the fall.

What can I expect from the Netherlands?

Beautiful canals, tulips in the spring and quaint cafes!
