Planning Resources:

Accommodation – I always check these three websites to see my options when booking hotels or apartments to stay in : Booking.com, Airbnb.com and Expedia.com (includes VRBO & Hotels.com)

Tours – When searching for activities and tours, I use Viator and Get Your Guide

Transportation – I stalk Google Flights for both domestic and international flights. For trains, Eurail for multi-day passes and Trainline for one-off train tickets. I often use Enterprise for rental cars, but will go with any reputable company that offers a good deal.

Portugal’s Best Hidden Gem – the sunset from the cliffs of Sagres! Did you know that Sagres was once referred to as the “end of the world” because it is the most westerly part of Europe. Bring a bottle of wine and enjoy the peaceful sunset from here!

Alex’s Insider Tips

1
Madeira & Azores- these island clusters off the coast of Portugal might become more famous than the mainland country itself! In fact the Azores are often referred to as Europe's Hawaii. I recommend visiting before they explode in popularity!
2
Don't Miss the Coastline- Portugal is lucky to have so much coast! Be sure to spend part of your trip by the water, as the beaches and cliffs of the Portuguese coast are wonderful!
3
Paella- although you will probably see paella on the menu, just know that it is not actually a Portuguese dish. They do make a similar dish and it's called arroz de marisco and it's worth a try!
4
Road-trip- Portugal is a great country to road-trip because it is not too large and has so many places worth seeing that are outside of the big towns.

What can I expect from Portugal?

Insane food, beautiful beaches, lively cities and an all-around great time!
