Planning Resources:

Accommodation – I always check these three websites to see my options when booking hotels or apartments to stay in : Booking.com, Airbnb.com and Expedia.com (includes VRBO & Hotels.com)

Tours – When searching for activities and tours, I use Viator and Get Your Guide

Transportation – I stalk Google Flights for both domestic and international flights. For trains, Eurail for multi-day passes and Trainline for one-off train tickets. I often use Enterprise for rental cars, but will go with any reputable company that offers a good deal.

Romania’s Best Hidden Gem – the Bicaz Gorge in the Hasmas Mountains. It’s a beautiful pass to drive or you can explore Hasmas National Park.

Alex’s Insider Tips

1
Border Patrol- we drove to Romania and let's just say the border patrol officers were very diligent both going into and leaving the country. Just a heads up that this could cause long border lines and make sure you have all the proper paperwork.
2
Schengen March 2024- soon Romania will join the Schengen region, this means free border passing between the other European countries in the Schengen. At first this will only be for travel by sea and air, NOT car. So still be prepared for the land border crossings.
3
Not Vegetarian Friendly- the country is very big on their meat dishes, so vegetarians will need to search a bit harder suitable restaurants.
4
Romanian Leu- although Romania is in the EU, they do not use the Euro.

What can I expect from Romania?

A bit of an undiscovered country, with national parks and interesting cities.
