Planning Resources:

Accommodation – I always check these three websites to see my options when booking hotels or apartments to stay in : Booking.com, Airbnb.com and Expedia.com (includes VRBO & Hotels.com)

Tours – When searching for activities and tours, I use Viator and Get Your Guide

Transportation – I stalk Google Flights for both domestic and international flights. For trains, Eurail for multi-day passes and Trainline for one-off train tickets. I often use Enterprise for rental cars, but will go with any reputable company that offers a good deal.

Sweden’s Best Hidden Gem – Kiruna, a town north of the Arctic Circle. Visit in the summer for swimming in the lake and hiking. Or the winter to see the Northern Lights and do all of the outdoor activities!

Alex’s Insider Tips

1
Allemansrätten- a man's right to public access is part of the culture in Sweden. Here you have the right to hike, camp and forage anywhere in the country, even on private property. It's very important taht you respect the land and stay more than 100 meters away from any houses/buildings.
2
Fika- your daily afternoon coffee and cake. This is the norm for Swedes and it's a cozy addition to your trip to Sweden!
3
Systembolaget- these are nationally run alcohol shops. The hours are very limited and everything is sold at room temperature, but it's where you have to go to buy most alcohol. You can buy beer up to 3.5% in regular stores. Beware of all around expensive prices for alcohol!
4
Sauna Culture- having a sauna is not a luxury in Sweden. Most people have one in their homes and they are part of a daily ritual. Your hotel will most likely have a sauna, so take advantage and enjoy a good sweat!

What can I expect from Sweden?

A very safe and nature-focused country. In Sweden you can slow down, enjoy Fika and jump in the sauna every day! The biggest downside? It’s pretty dark in the winter months…
