Planning Resources:

Accommodation – I always check these three websites to see my options when booking hotels or apartments to stay in : Booking.com, Airbnb.com and Expedia.com (includes VRBO & Hotels.com)

Tours – When searching for activities and tours, I use Viator and Get Your Guide

Transportation – I stalk Google Flights for both domestic and international flights. For trains, Eurail for multi-day passes and Trainline for one-off train tickets. I often use Enterprise for rental cars, but will go with any reputable company that offers a good deal.

Switzerland’s Best Hidden Gem – the mountain village of Wengen. During ski season, you must visit this quaint ski village. It is a car-free town, where you can often ski in/out of your accommodation. The main street has plenty of bars and restaurants. Plus you can easily ski anywhere in the Jungfrau region!

Alex’s Insider Tips

1
Stay in Airbnb- yes, Switzerland is expensive...especially eating out at restaurants. Save some money by staying somewhere with a kitchen or kitchenette, then you can make some of your meals to save some cash!
2
Skiing is Cheap- well, in comparison to the United States that is 🙂 Daily lift tickets are about $60-70 (they have actually gone up in price a lot in the past couple years) but that's a deal in comparison to the $200+ adult life tickets in the states!
3
3 Regions- did you know Switzerland has 3 different regions? The culture and language is different in each of these. The 3 regions are: French, German and Italian. You will have a slightly different experience in each of the regions, especially in terms of food.
4
Train Travel- the Swiss trains are very nice and typically punctual. Plus, they travel the most beautiful routes! Taking a train ride in Switzerland is an experience in and of itself!

What can I expect from Switzerland?

A safe, clean and well-run country that you will never want to leave. Whether you’re in Zurich or a small mountain town, you will just fall in love with Switzerland. Just be sure to save up for your trip, because it isn’t cheap…
