WELCOME TO ALEX’S UNITED KINGDOM TRAVEL GUIDE

The United Kingdom is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Honestly, it was a bit tough for me to lump them all together into one country (even though they technically are all one country) because I think they are all very unique. I will eventually write on each region but for now, let’s talk about them as a whole country.

Planning Resources:

Accommodation – I always check these three websites to see my options when booking hotels or apartments to stay in : Booking.com, Airbnb.com and Expedia.com (includes VRBO & Hotels.com)

Tours – When searching for activities and tours, I use Viator and Get Your Guide

Transportation – I stalk Google Flights for both domestic and international flights. For trains, Eurail for multi-day passes and Trainline for one-off train tickets. I often use Enterprise for rental cars, but will go with any reputable company that offers a good deal.

United Kingdom’s Best Hidden Gem – the Cotswolds region of England. The English countryside is such a picturesque area. Visiting here will allow you to relax, smell the fresh air and enjoy a pint in a local pub!

Alex’s Insider Tips

1
Overnight Train- an easy way to travel between London and northern Scotland is by train. There are even sleeper cars to ensure a comfortable journey!
2
Rent a Car- in order to get outside of London and see the English countryside, you will want to rent a car. Be sure to pick up the car OUTSIDE the London city limits, or you'll have to pay a fee for driving in the city!
3
The Tube- the absolute best way to get around London is with the subway system. You can purchase an Oyster Card and preload money onto it, or just use your contactless credit card. Either way, you just tap it every time you enter and exit the tube, the charges will automatically max out at about $10/day.
4
Pub Culture- an afternoon visit to the pub is a way of life in, especially in London. Here you will see flocks of people enjoying a post-work pint at the local pub. Join in!

What can I expect from the United Kingdom?

Four different regional areas: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each with their individuality, but some similarities as well. Of course, it’s an English speaking country but you might have to listen closely to understand 🙂 A country that loves their pubs and Sunday roasts. You can experience lively city life or escape into the beautiful, green countryside.
