Planning Resources:

Accommodation – I always check these three websites to see my options when booking hotels or apartments to stay in : Booking.com, Airbnb.com and Expedia.com (includes VRBO & Hotels.com)

Tours – When searching for activities and tours, I use Viator and Get Your Guide

Transportation – I stalk Google Flights for both domestic and international flights. For trains, Eurail for multi-day passes and Trainline for one-off train tickets. I often use Enterprise for rental cars, but will go with any reputable company that offers a good deal.

Vatican City’s Best Hidden Gem – the Necropolis tour. Most people who visit the Vatican skip over this tour, making it a hidden gem in comparison to the typical Vatican sights.

Alex’s Insider Tips

1
Buy Tickets in Advance- looking to visit the Vatican Museum or Sistine Chapel? You will want to buy this tickets in advance to skip the line!
2
Palm Sunday- my husband happened to visit on a Palm Sunday, where he was actually able to see the Pope! Of course it will be quite crowded on this holiday, but if you're looking to see the Pope, then it could be the right day to visit!
3
Day Visit from Rome- you can't stay in Vatican City and it is located within the city of Rome, so the only real option is to stay in Rome. Then use one of your days in Rome to visit the Vatican.
4
Pack a Snack- as I mentioned, there are not any restaurants within Vatican City. If you think you will find yourself hungry, pack a snack 🙂

What can I expect from Vatican City?

A very small city, with a sole focus on the Catholic religion. You won’t find much outside of the museums and religious sights. However, it is located within the city of Rome, which has plenty to offer!
