Why Visit Milos:

Have you heard of Milos? It’s definitely not as popular as Santorini or Mykonos…at least not yet. Check out my Guide to Milos so you can visit as soon as you can because I’m certain it will only continue to grow in popularity. But seriously, why visit Milos? Aside from smaller crowds (compared to neighboring islands), Milos is also stunning! The beaches and rock formations are truly unique. The island is a true natural beauty!!

Renting a car, ATV or dune buggy is crucial for getting the most out of your trip to Milos. So much of what makes Milos special can only be seen by vehicle. There are so many beaches and fishing villages you can drive to. You can also take a ferry from Pollonia to Kimolos as a day trip! Not to mention the option of renting a boat or going on a private (or group) sailboat or catamaran cruise. The views you get from the water are really special!

Accomodation:

In my opinion, a rental car or ATV is crucial for making the most of your time on Milos and it allows you to stay in accommodation outside of the main towns. I adored my stay at:

Cave Suites Milos

  • Ultimate honeymoon spot
  • Small, boutique resort
  • Every room as a private pool
  • Breakfast served to your room
  • Possibility for in-room massages
  • Walking distance from Sarakiniko
  • Short cab ride/drive from the port and the town of Adamas
  • Gracious owner is so friendly and ensures a perfect stay

Activites:

  • Explore island on ATV
  • Explore Sarakiniko rock formations
  • ATV to explore old sulfur mine and Thiorichia Beach
  • Boat tour of island (Kleftiko)
  • Day trip to Kimolos (from Pollonia)
  • Sunset at Plaka castle
  • Hike to Tsigrado beach

Sights:

  • Beaches:
    • Sarakiniko
    • Mandrakia
    • Paleochori
    • Papafragas
    • Alogomandra
    • Plathiena
  • Madarakia Town
  • Kleftiko Cliffs and Sea Caves
  • Klima Fishing Village
  • Pollonia Village
  • Plaka Village and Castle

Eats & Drinks:

  • Medusa Restaurant Milos (seafood, Mandrakia)
  • Sirocco Volcanic Beach & Restaurant (greek, Paliochori)
  • Mangata Milos (cocktails, Adamas)
  • Nostos Seafood Experience (seafood/greek, Adamas)
  • Enjoy seafront dining/drinks in Adamas

The rock formations at Sarakiniko Beach are otherworldly! The pictures you look up on google won’t do it justice…it’s a place you just have to see in person. This beach is a definite highlight of Milos island, but don’t let keep you from exploring the rest of the island.

Milos is still relatively untouched compared to the more famous Cyclades. This is probably what makes it one of my favorite Greek islands. That and the fact that the beaches and rock formations are truly incredible.

It’s important to know that while you can absolutely have a dreamy vacation or honeymoon on Milos, it isn’t as built up as Mykonos or Santorini. Personally, this was something I loved about Milos but I know everyone prefers different things when they travel so this is something to keep in mind.
